Hoops For Heart Finale Event

In December of 2014, Pathfinder School celebrated their second annual American Heart Association Event: Hoops For Heart. Our students learned about their heart and improved their basketball skills. Every morning one student went to each classroom and presented a morning announcement; which consisted of a heart fact. In P.E. students learned how to dribble, shoot, and learn the game of basketball. Teamwork and communication were two social skills taught during this unit.

At the finale event all students that were present were able to show off their basketball skills through various games and stations. First we played Musical Shooting (Similar to musical chairs). The students would shoot baskets until the music stopped then the student's would run to the chairs to try and get a seat. Cody was our Musical Shooting winner. Afterwards the students moved throughout stations: shooting, passing, dribbling and pinning a basketball in the basket. Next student participation certificates and awards were handed out. At the end of the event students were able to pie staff in the face and silly string our principal, Mr. Adams.

My favorite part of this event was announcing to everyone that we reached our donation goal of $800.00 this year and passed the goal with $800.50. I am so proud of all of my students for going outside their comfort zone and asking for donations. Communication can be difficult; especially when talking with someone you do not know. Each student put in a lot of hard work this year and they were recognized for it.These kids are awesome!  I am thankful for the staff that I work with at Pathfinder School and Pathfinder Village. I could not do this event without everyone's help. It truly is amazing to see everyone come together.
